How to Create Abstract Art?
My homework this week for my arts class is to create some sort of abstract art. I honestly don't know what to make though! Can anyone give me some ideas? I want to use paints, but are acrylic or oil paints better at creating abstract art? What brush size do I need? Also, what can I do to keep by brush from getting goopy paint in the bristles? Just plain water isn't working that well.
Abstract is just that. . . . so you can do anything you like.
As for your issue with paint getting goopy in the bristles, it helps to wet the brush in whatever the medium you are using first (thinner for oils, water for watercolors, water and/or medium for acrylics.)
Your brush depends on the size of your canvas or paper, not the style you are painting. Always use the largest brush you can get away with. No one medium is best for abstract art: I have seen quilts and cake-tops decorated abstractly!
One very simple way to do an abstraction if this it not something you are familiar with is to blow up a photo really large and do tiny section of it. All of nature and what we see is abstract if you get close enough. . . or far enough away.
One simple abstract idea would be to select 5-7 colors you like together (vary light and dark, bright and dull) and just start painting them on your canvas. Of course you will want to make it look like you have some idea how to cover a canvas, so blending will become your friend as you work the colors around. Another idea is to smear, spatter, and dribble the paint around on the canvas until you see a balance of color, lights and darks, soft and sharps, etc. Avoid making all parts of the canvas EVEN or THE SAME, or you will end up with a blah pattern and it will not sparkle.
Other ideas are to look through a kaleidoscope, a piece of wavy glass, a piece of cut crystal, etc. Then take a well cropped view and paint that. I am sure it will be abstract enough for your class work.

When hand-painting a Gundam model kit, do you apply the paint directly or do you need to use surface primer?
Whichever you prefer. If I'm doing small, detail work, I don't bother priming. But with my main paint job, I do prime.
However, with the 2 Gundam kits I've built, I've just painted everything while it was still on the sprue (no priming), then did a quick touch-up where I snipped the part off. Worked out really well that way.

Other than working on parakeets and a champion black angus, there is a man who also likes working on alligators and it is growing into a successful and highly specialized art business. He is so talented that he can paint a pet flea so long as there's a fine quality picture of it. Several birds, cats, rabbits, horses, dogs, and one alligator are the specially selected animals for his masterpieces thus far. You will gain a deeper understanding about custom pet portrait by checking out that resource.
Arts and animals were his primary interest as a young kid. But, as many an artist knows it's pretty tough to make a living out of selling fine paintings, especially when one has to support a wife and youngster. In the Bay Area where he moved he tried to pursue a career in commercial art as he continued studying. It was during World War II when he opened his display business and engaged in fine art as a hobby.
It was suggested by his wife that he develop his hobby into a business after he impressed a friend and his pair of siamese cats as he made a portrait of the felines that almost ruined it by purring and rubbing against it. When he entered into the pet portrait painting business, he was met with a desirable financial result.
The cow palace was the home of his freshest masterpieces. Afterwards he received plenty of requests to make portraits of fine show horses, a champion rabbit, and a pet parakeet whose owner fondly recalls how she was able to raise it from an egg. Requested by a famous television actor singer who was also a recording artist was for him to make a portrait of his horse. Making a portrait of a winning black angus also became one of his tasks. Aside from having subjects that rarely kick he considers it to be better than painting people portraits. Read this site if you want oil painting quotes information.
There is a big university in Santa Clara with a new director of the gallery and museum who was a former director of a big museum in San Jose and she assumed her post after a reverend died early last month. A well known artist herself, the new director has exhibited through the nation and locally at the palace of the legion of honor.
There is a local sculptor whose works will be exhibited at a gallery in San Francisco. When it comes to his works, thirty of them with neo classical to highly abstracted forms will be displayed. Not only is he a highly talented artist but he is also a photographer, a writer, and the conductor of a ballet school. The movie spectre of a rose is one which he starred in. There will be an exhibit displaying more than 200 objects, books, prints, paintings, and sculptures from a private collection and it will be presented in another famous museum.
From one couple from Pennsylvania comes a collection spanning 50 years. It includes some of the works of more than a dozen famous painters, and scores of other historic greats. Interestingly enough, the husband began collecting books while still a student of Harvard, and expanded it over the years purchasing many of the more valuable objects on the installment plan.
How much would it cost to get an oil-paint giant portrait of yourself/ family?
a big one like the ones you see in rich peoples houses or on tv.
Well, seeing as that's kind of an out-dated form of art (I say this only because most portraits now are just photographs or prints, rarely hand-painted pieces), it would cost quite a lot. The artist, size, complexity, and time it takes to paint are all factors in the price. Oil painttakes a very long time not only to master but also to paint with, even for very skilled artists. Painting something as complex as a portrait of yourself or of a whole family would take much longer than, say, painting a bowl of fruit. You can see prints of small-sized, hardly famous artwork sell for hundreds of dollars. A hand painted portrait in oils would go for thousands.
